Sunday lunch with Iris
Article Abstract:
Novelist Irish Murdoch now suffers from Alzheimer's disease, but still seems to take pleasure in meeting and visiting her old friends. As long as she feels secure, she is an easy guest. She cannot sustain conversation, but remains very affectionate. She responds to the rhythm of conversation, and her voice sometimes has the appropriate pitch or modulation. Her illness has placed a great strain on her husband, John Bayley, but he has found some strength to deal with the situation through humour.

Last of a charmed circle
Article Abstract:
Literary critic and translator Frances Partridge remains very active, even though she is now 98. She is the last surviving member of the inner circle of the Bloomsbury group, and knew many well-known figures from that era, including Wittgenstein, Lytton and Carrington. She accepted the passage of time at an early age, and has had very little fear of growing old ever since. She lost both her husband and her son in the 1960s, but later regained her ability to enjoy life.
