Talking telecom numbers
Article Abstract:
There are many career opportunities in the UK telecommunications sector for graduates and post-graduates, especially those with an engineering or computer science background. Some undergraduate courses include an element relevant to telecommunications, but it may be advisable to undertake more specific postgraduate study, thus improving employment options. In the past, graduates and postgraduates have often not really contemplated a career in telecommunications, but this is beginning to change as telecommunications has a more extensive impact on society.

Signs of an underground explosion
Article Abstract:
Cable companies have not experienced an overwhelming demand for their television channels in the UK, but could establish a strong presence in telephone services. Their fibre-optic cables allow them to offer inexpensive phone lines, competing directly with British Telecom. They are making links with long-distance telecoms companies, and in some parts of the UK it is already possible to avoid using BT equipment at all. These developments could lead to extensive changes in the way telephone services operate.
