Telecoms man plugs Granada into the future

Thinking strategically is extremely important, according to Duncan Lewis, head of Granada Media Group, the media division of the hotels and leisure operation controlled by Gerry Robinson. On joining the company, he undertook a three-month review of its operations, and has now established a new management structure. There will be a split between broadcasting and production, with separate operating companies being retained for Granada and London Weekend Television.

HTV is one of the smaller ITV operators, but has seen strong financial performance recently and has become very focused, according to Chris Rowlands, the head of the company. The concern, which broadcasts commercial television in Wales and the west of England, is concentrating on content provision, rather than on expanding into new areas, such as cable and satellite. It is particularly strong in wildlife programmes.
