The fund managers who just keep in tracking
Article Abstract:
Index tracker funds, which aim to match the performance of the stock market by buying most or all of the constituent companies in their correct weightings, have now become very popular. This approach allows the fund manager to choose what stocks to hold, monitoring and rebalancing them to keep them aligned with the index. Tracker funds are much less expensive to run than actively managed funds, and have also performed as well as or better than almost three-quarters of UK active fund managers which did not beat the All-Share index over the last three years.

It may be total, but it's not all
Article Abstract:
Total quality management (TQM) is popular in manufacturing industries, the service sector, the professions and government. It improves morale, performance and business. Ferranti and Rank Xerox found it recovered profits. A T Kearney conducted a survey which found 80% of TQM programmes fail. TQM must have tangible results, performance measurement, a unified scheme and dedication by chief executives to succeed.

A path through the corporate minefield
Article Abstract:
The UK market for corporate bond personal equity plans (Peps) is still limited, with the total value of Pep-qualifying investments at around 32.2 billion pounds sterling. Yield margins have generally been close to gilt yields, but experts believe that they are now set to widen. Corporate bond supply is likely to increase as companies seek to raise money cheaply.
