It seems inevitable that the forthcoming marching season in Northern Ireland will bring some violence. However, this should not be allowed to overshadow the fact that political progress is being made. There is now a real chance for symbolism to be cast aside and for reason to prevail in the form of power sharing in the new Assembly. There is still a great deal of hatred in Northern Ireland, but the politics of compromise is beginning to become firmly established.
