How Washington's Irish lobby was brought to book
Article Abstract:
The memoirs of Raymond Seitz, US Ambassador in London, England, between 1991 and 1994, indicate that President Bill Clinton's administration was extremely susceptible to republican influences when dealing with the Northern Irish question during its first two years. This is reflected in particular in the decision to grant a visa to Gerry Adams in early 1994. Seitz indicates the extent to which even democrats with extensive political experience can be open to romantic ideas about the validity of terrorist violence in Northern Ireland.
