The living proof of Rwanda's mass rapes
Article Abstract:
Many women were raped during the Rwandan genocide in 1994, according to Leonille Mukamagyera, who herself gave birth in early 1995 to a son conceived as a result of a rape. The rape victims were mainly members of the Tutsi minority, with their attackers coming from the Hutu majority. Some women have abandoned their unwanted children or even committed infanticide, while others have developed medical problems as a result of self-induced or clandestine abortions.

'People were murdered brutally, with knives, machetes and clubs. You had to pay money if you wanted to be killed by a bullet.' (experiences of genocide in Rwanda)
Article Abstract:
The UN Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda is attempting to prosecute those guilty of war crimes in the country in 1994, mainly against Tutsis. However, it is proving difficult to identify who was responsible, and only 21 people have been indicted so far. Surviving Tutsis tell of mass slaughter of their people in many towns and villages. In the village of Taba, for example, thousands of people were killed in the early days of the genocide.
