'Millionaires' Row' is a sought-after address but some owners borrowed against their properties to help their businesses. Estate agent Trevor Abrahmsohn finds 1993 buyers can purchase for half the 1988 price. His technique is to insist on buyers and sellers making bargains.

It's the free gifts that clinch the deals

House builders and estate agents are offering deals and gifts to push purchases forward. A new deal by the National Association of Estate Agents is for an insurance scheme to cover the repair costs for wiring or central heating. Other schemes include free protection policies against unemployment, sickness or accident. House builders are offering part exchange on existing property, chain breaking discounts and even free cleaning services on upmarket homes.
