What's the Big Idea? I don't know that we need one
Article Abstract:
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair's Third Way has responded to a strong yearning among many people to identify a firm set of principles in government policy. However, it is possible to question whether a government that has placed strong emphasis on abandoning an outdated ideology should adopt another one. It appears that the Third Way is really designed to ensure that Blair wins the next election. Indeed, it is possible to question whether the Third Way would have any future if Blair were to lose an election.

The people's trust may no longer be enough to solve Blair's dilemma
Article Abstract:
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has begun to encounter difficulties in 1998. He has come under pressure on issues including Northern Ireland and welfare reform, and this has served to distance him from ordinary people. Media attention is beginning to focus on his government colleagues, while he is left to try to limit the damage to the government's reputation. He has not yet lost the instinctive trust of ordinary people, but is certainly becoming more vulnerable.
