Are these bombings a cynical stunt by an embattled President?
Article Abstract:
Some Americans may perceive US President Bill Clinton's bombing of alleged terrorist sites in Sudan and Afghanistan as a cynical attempt to assuage public anger about his lying over his relationship with Monica Lewinsky, although it is more likely the US will perceive his response as justifiable retaliation for the terrorist attacks on US embassies in Africa. Clinton's supporters claim the strikes were intended only to protect US interests. Iraq is using Clinton's admission of lies to denounce his government as weak and has subsequently refused to co-operate on weapons inspections with the United Nations.

Little men are the losers in US game of tit-for-tat
Article Abstract:
The US has reacted to a ban by the European Union on hormone-treated beef from the US by threatening to impose an import tariff of 100% on a wide range of products from Europe. These products, which include Dutch cut flowers and French truffles, have been carefully selected to create as much concern as possible among European Union countries. They will be added to the list of products already affected by a parallel conflict between the US and the European Union over European imports of bananas.
