The wickedest men in the world put to the sword
Article Abstract:
The Daily Express newspaper demonized poet and magician Aleister Crowley in the 1920s, in much the same way as it has been reporting on the private life of former MP Jonathan Aitken. It reported with apparent glee about Crowley's many vices, and even went as far as to claim that he had been involved in child murder. He was portrayed to the general public as a monster, and his life was presented in great detail, as has been the case with Aitken. Crowley was later bankrupted by pursuing an unsuccessful libel case, another similarity with Aitken.

Why wasn't I told about what they sold as gold?
Article Abstract:
American Express failed to inform holders of its Gold Card who did not also use its banking facilities when it decided to withdraw the facility to obtain a 10,000 pounds sterling overdraft without prior notice. This meant that some cardholders continued to pay the annual fee of around 50 pounds sterling in the belief that they could use a facility which in fact no longer existed. The company initially failed to offer a reasonable explanation for its oversight in not making its position clear.

Investment can't be kite-marked
Article Abstract:
The UK government is considering whether to set up some form of quality control symbol for its planned Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs). It is looking to ensure that ISAs meet a minimum set of investment standards and also comply with a range of more subjective measures. It is proposed that the quality control symbol would apply only to tracker funds. This is a very divisive and unfair approach, as it deprives actively managed funds of access to a vast new pool of potential savings.
