Sultan Bashir-ud-Din Mahmood, who played a key role in the development of Pakistan's nuclear weapons programme, has been questioned by FBI and CIA agents. He is know to be a fervent Islamist and backer of Afghanistan's Taliban regime.

Sharif fights to strangle free speech
Article Abstract:
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is facing considerable opposition as he seeks to restrict the power of the press. The Jang group continues to battle very hard to ensure that it receives its limited allocation of paper for its newspapers, and is taking legal action against the government, alleging infringement of the freedom of the press. The government is placing Jang under great pressure, including indicating that some journalists should be dismissed.
