Baltic republics build a bridge in order to help themselves

Article Abstract:

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have small economies which are easier to alter.They co-operate with each other in a Baltic free-trade zone. They are a potential intermediary between Russia and the West, with four ports serving Russia. There is an agreement permitting Russia to ship oil through Bentspils, Latvia for a transit fee of 5% payable in oil. The 'Baltic Bridge' helps Western and Japanese businesses to sell in Russia , but the West only supports those republics with powerful armaments.

Article Abstract:

Developers and estate agents lend empty office buildings for art exhibitions, concerts and plays in the hope of finding tenants among the visitors. Buildings market themselves subtly by word of mouth. The renovated Spitalfields Market is used for indoor tennis and rollerskating. 'The Merchant of Venice' was performed to an audience of 500 in Rose Court, Southwark. Some empty office blocks may be converted to residential accommodation especially suitable for students and nurses.
