The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon show that there can be no military response to suicide bombings. Many suicide bombers have little formal education, but have a strong sense of despair, anger and self-righteousness.

US military action in response to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon is targeted at the enemies of the US, rather than at world terrorism. This raises questions about why revenge has not been sought for the deaths of many innocent people in other terrorist attacks.

It is very wrong to present military action against Afghanistan as a war against terrorism. It is certainly not regarded in this way by Muslims, who feel that the West has been hypocritical in claiming to show respect for Islam. The US administration is presenting the terrorist attacks as an assault on civilization, so Muslims are entitled to see an attack on Afghanistan as targeting Islam.
