Tabloids sniff out an easy way to make a splash
Article Abstract:
It has become extremely common for tabloid newspapers in the UK to devote a great deal of space to stories about minor celebrities caught taking drugs. Most recently, it has been reported that Tom Parker Bowles, godson of the Prince of Wales, has taken cocaine. It is very easy for newspapers to produce such stories, as in many cases they are informed by a friend of the celebrity concerned. It is possible that tabloid newspapers are beginning to focus on drugs because stories about infidelity are losing their appeal.
