Time to invest in a Tessa
Article Abstract:
Tax-exempt special savings accounts (Tessas) are a safe, if rather boring, form of investment. The most common Tessa is the basic variable-rate one, with the rate remaining the same regardless of the amount of money invested. There are also Tessas with stepped interest rates, determined by the amount invested. Some variable-rate Tessas offer bonuses if the invested capital and tax-free interest are left in the account until maturity. A variable-rate account is the best choice if you believe that interest rates will rise over the term of the Tessa, while a fixed-rate Tessa is better if you believe that interest rates will fall.

Anyone with less than 100,000 pounds sterling need not apply
Article Abstract:
The private client banking sector in the UK has seen strong growth over recent years as the number of people with considerable personal wealth has increased. Private client banks differ from ordinary high street banks in being able to take calculated risks about the ultimate value of their clients, and are able to emphasize a personalized service that brings together all the client's main financial planning concerns. Most private banking clients have free assets or annual income of 100,000 pounds sterling or more.

A hole in the wall machine with principles
Article Abstract:
It can be very difficult to clearly assess the ethical credentials of the UK's leading banks, as banks are very careful to ensure that their commercial operations remain confidential. The leading four clearing banks are all involved in providing third world debt, and this has brought protests from shareholders. However, a small number of banks are seeking to make an ethical stance. Triodos Bank, for example, reinvests only in organizations and businesses with social and environmental goals.
