To change image, take a green line
Article Abstract:
Railtrack does not have a particularly positive public image, according to chairman Bob Horton. This will create difficulties as the company prepares for a 2 billion pounds sterling privatisation in late May 1996. He believes that it was right to eliminate procedures which were no longer relevant, and remains committed to the future of rail transport. He expects to come under considerable pressure soon from the rail franchise companies to make extensive changes in the way the company operates.

A question of private railways
Article Abstract:
The UK government believes that railway operations in the UK can become profitable, and has established the privatised rail industry specifically to allow Railtrack to be profitable. The company has a range of assets, including hotels and office blocks, but has little margin for diversification. It will become profitable through job cuts, improved efficiency, cost savings and the increased use of the railways as a result of privatisation.
