Transfer ticket
Article Abstract:
There are indications that a considerable number of investors in the UK are transferring and consolidating their personal equity plans (PEPs) into single accounts. PEP transfers are permitted between providers with no loss of any original tax relief. Many PEP providers 'bundle' plans taken in successive years by the same customer, and this means that they cannot subsequently be separated. If it is possible to transfer into a single fund, it is important to ensure that the provider is likely to make alternative funds available if investment goals change.

Should you invest in...the retail sector?
Article Abstract:
The UK retail sector has found it difficult to attract investors recently. This partly because of difficulties at Marks & Spencer and partly because of weak consumer spending. Experts advise that it is worth considering investing in the leading retailers, although investors should avoid retailers which need inflation to get their pricing through. It is also worth avoiding franchises that are not differentiated from their peers.
