Truth may prove most useful propaganda tool

Article Abstract:

Nato and the Serb authorities are both aware that it is very important to monitor and seek to control public opinion about the conflict in Kosovo, Yugoslavia. Nato was right to admit immediately that a mistake had been made when 10 Serb civilians were killed in a bomb attack on a train, but it will prove much harder for Nato to merely apologize if it was responsible for the death of refugees in a convoy near Djakovica, Kosovo. Nato's most serious problem is the fact that it had initially stated that Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic would back down after only a few days.

Precarious chain of Balkan states teeters on the brink

Article Abstract:

The conflict in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, has not yet had wider repercussions for the Balkan region. However, Albania has now made a strong commitment to involvement in Nato military action against Yugoslavia, and fighting is taking place in the frontier region between Kosovo and Albania. There is no guarantee that the fighting will not spread to Bosnia, Macedonia or Montenegro. There is particular concern about the situation in Montenegro, where there is great tension between the pro-Western government and the opposition, which supports Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic.
