UK: CONCERNS RAISED BY LSE LISTING CHANGES
Article Abstract:
Changes to its main market listing rules by the London Stock Exchange (LSE) have raised fears that companies' enthusiasm to gain listings may lead them to limit disclosure on their risks. The alterations, which came into effect on 4 January 2000, allow companies without three-year trading records, to seek listings as long as they are innovative, fast-growing, and capable of raising more than GB[pound] 20mn from sophisticated investors. They should also have market capitalisation of over GB[pound] 50mn, and must offer details of their risk factors. Following the collapse of the fully listed trade finance company Versailles, fund managers and index trackers have expressed concerns over the new system.

UK: RETURN ON EQUITY DISAPPOINTS, SAYS STUDY
Article Abstract:
In the UK, the total return on equities since 1900 has been 3.8% on an annualised basis, according to a London Business School (LBS) and ABN Amro report released on 17 February 2000. The figure is less that other studies which found that real returns for the 1919-1999 period exceeded 8%. Equity returns were 8.9% for the 1950 to 2000 period, compared with 3% for 1900-1950 and 11.2% for 1990-2000. LBS believes that equities will not repeat the astonishing achievements of the past 50 years during the 21st Century.
