UK: BMW'S Z8 GETS ONCE OVER
Article Abstract:
John Simister from UK newspaper, The Independent, reports on BMW's latest launch, the Z8. Drawbacks include the fact that the car only comes as a left-hand drive, the hood-cover is awkward as it flaps when stowed (electrically). The behind-head wind-deflector is difficult to put up and is said not to work. The Z8 is said to perform in every other way beautifully.

UK: LAND ROVER LAUNCHES FREELANDER OFFROADER
Article Abstract:
Ford, the US-based car manufacturer, and owner of Land Rover, has just launched the latest versions of Europe's most successful off-roader, the Land Rover Freelander Td4 and V6. The Freelander is priced between GB[pound] 17,195 for the 3 door Softback S model, and GB[pound] 22,195 for the 5 door ES. The Td4 comes with a 1,951cc four cylinder, 16-valve engine which produces 112bhp at 4,000rpm and can do 0-60mph in 13.2 seconds. The new Freelander offers higher capacity cooling and air conditioning systems and improved crash protection. It also has larger brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and a new Getrag gearbox for the Td4. When used offroad, the Freelander uses hill descent control which allows it to maintain a constant 5mph downhill on a steep slope. Industry experts believe the new V6 will open up new sales opportunities in the US, Japan and the Far East.
