UK: EASYJET UNDER FIRE FROM RIVALS
Article Abstract:
EasyJet Group was criticised on 12 January 2000 over its plans to launch a European car rental firm, EasyRentaCar, from April 2000. The UK-based low-cost travel business's new unit could charge customers hiring its vehicles a mere GB[pound] 9 per day and is described as a challenge to the cartel arrangement in the car rental market. However, hire car broker, Holiday Autos', chairman and chief executive, Clive Jacobs, believes that pricing claims made by EasyJet are misleading and has called for an investigation by consumer affairs minister, Kim Howells.

Take it easy to make it work
Article Abstract:
Managing growth is always extremely challenging, according to easyJet founder and owner Stelios Haji-Ioannou. He believes that the airline still has considerable potential for growth, and feels that it will be possible to replicate the easyJet concept in any large city. He believes that his new venture, easyEverything, a 24-hour-a-day Internet cafe in Victoria, London, England, is a clear response to the public's needs.

UK: OVERSEAS AIR TRAFFIC STAKE LIMITED TO 30%
Article Abstract:
In order to appease opponents of the part-privatisation of the UK's air traffic control system, the government is likely to restrict overseas ownership of the British air traffic control system (NATS) to 30%. The government also plans to impose detailed licence conditions under which NATS must operate Potential bidders include US-based Lockheed Martin, and French defence group Thomson-CSF. A total of around 30 bidders are thought likely to register when formal invitations are issued in the spring, although it will probably be spring 2001 before the bid is awarded.
