UK: RAIL BOSSES GIVEN TIMETABLE DEADLINE
Article Abstract:
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and his deputy, John Prescott, demanded on 9 November 2000 that rail chiefs draw up an effective timetable inside the next seven says, as well as provide a comprehensive guide to services during the Christmas period. Both men are frustrated over the problems caused by the Hatfield crash in October 2000 and by the severe floods and have highlighted the need for travellers to receive more information. Railtrack chief executive, Gerald Corbett, said that maintenance work will carry on into spring 2001, noting that 250 miles of track still required replacing.
