UK: STANDBY ENERGY CONSUMPTION TO GROW
Article Abstract:
UK standby energy consumption is projected to more than double by 2010, according to a report Julia Vowles, an Environment Change Institute researcher at Oxford University. Standby consumption covers electronic devices not in use but are still plugged in, as well as those that are switched off, and already make up 8% or 800mn watts of UK homes' overall electricity consumption. UK domestic electricity bills increase by GB[pound] 357mn per year through digital TV alone by 2010, says the report, which envisages 72mn digital decoders being operational by 2020.
