UK: CAMMELL LAIRD TO CUT JOBS
Article Abstract:
Cammell Laird, the UK based shipyard based in Merseyside, has announced that it is to cut some 250 jobs with immediate effect. The job cuts are understood to be the result of the continued uncertainty surrounding a contract to upgrade the Italian cruise liner, Costa Classica. Negotiations over the GB[pound] 51mn contract with Costa Crociere are said to be progressing quite well but the ship was recently ordered to turn back whilst en route to the shipyard. Following the job cuts around 1,000 staff will remain at the shipyard.
