UK: ZETTERS POSTS LOWER PROFITS
Article Abstract:
Zetters posted lower pre-tax profits for the 12 months to end-March 2000 compared with the year earlier due in part to competition from the National Lottery. The UK-based football pools operator's chairman, Anthony Wollenberg, revealed plans to tap other markets, becoming an online lifestyle betting business in order to become less exposed to the pools arena. Zetters and the online services business, 365, offered a sports pools service during the Euro 2000 football event and plans to launch a full online service before the 2000-2001 football season starts. Table: Zetters Figures in GB[pound] mn Current Previous/Change Turnover 10.4 - 34% Pre-tax profits 1.14 1.54 -25.97%

Datrontech hit hard by glut of US chips
Article Abstract:
The UK computer hardware distributor, Datrontech, has issued a profit warning and announced the resignation of its finance director. The warning said that interim profits would be well below analysts expectations of GB 3.5mn at GB 2.6mn. Profits for the year would slip from 1997's figure of GB 6.1mn to GB 5mn. Again, this is well below market expectations of GB 8mn. The problems have been blamed on over production by US chip manufacturers and a slowdown in demand since May 1998. Demand has been hit by the Asian crisis and the Y2K bug focusing attention on software upgrades rather than hardware.
