Unarmed observers to police Kosovo accord
Article Abstract:
Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic has agreed to permit a 2,000-strong unarmed force to enter Kosovo, Yugoslavia, to ensure that he complies with United Nations demands to withdraw his special troops from the region. However, some observers believe that too many concessions have been made to Milosevic, claiming that a strong international security presence is required if it is to become safe enough for ethnic Albanian refugees in Kosovo to return to their homes. The verification mission will be under the auspices of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, which has no experience in monitoring military withdrawals.

Danish poll haunted by fear of immigration
Article Abstract:
Danish society is extremely homogenous, with non-Danes accounting for only 4% of the population. Negative attitudes towards immigrants have played a key role in shaping the debate in the run-up to the vote on the Amsterdam treaty, which will determine whether Denmark becomes more closely integrated with Europe. Observers believe that euro-scepticism is now more widespread in Denmark than in the UK, with ordinary people taking a very close interest in the details of the treaty.
