A man for all Sicilians
Article Abstract:
Nostalgia can be used very effectively in film, according to Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore. This is the case with 'Cinema Paradiso,' which won the Grand Prix at Cannes in 1989 and gained Tornatore international recognition. His latest film, 'The Starmaker,' is a commentary on the nostalgic atmosphere of 'Cinema Paradiso.' It focuses on cultural clashes in Sicily, and is an attempt to show the dark side of Tornatore's own love of films.

A fair crack at happiness
Article Abstract:
Novelist Maeve Binchy's works have become extremely popular, and regularly feature in bestseller lists. They deal with life in Ireland in the 1950s and 1960s, often looking at pairs or groups of women friends. They are so successful because they draw on her own background and are written in the way in which she naturally talks. Many of her own experiences, such as working as a teacher, feature in her novels.
