We were all in glitter, looking at the stars
Article Abstract:
Filmmaker Todd Haynes believes that all films lie. His film 'Safe,' which was widely misinterpreted, lied deliberately. With his most recent film, 'Velvet Goldmine,' Haynes has allowed glam-rock, which he regards as a combination of elements, to affect how the film works on every level. He has sought to present something comparable to what he believes glam-rock did at the time, drawing in influences from fiction and fact. In this film, the lying is at the level of content.

Young, screwed up? His films are made for you
Article Abstract:
Young people should not necessarily know what they are going to do with their life, according to filmmaker Richard Linklater. The four films he has made so far are all about young people, and he is unusual among filmmakers in appearing to have real respect for the younger generation. In 'SubUrbia,' his latest film, he shows a conflict between location and the human condition. He also shows a clash of opposing cultures, and deals explicitly with issues of class and race.
