West senses opportunity as Japan embarks on a painful revolution
Article Abstract:
Japan has begun to accept that it will be necessary to undertake fundamental economic reform. Economists believe that this will present valuable investment opportunities for the West. Japan will have to abandon some of the key features of its economy, including cross-shareholder ownership of companies and a focus on market share, rather than profit growth. Instead, it will have to undertake extensive job-cutting, with companies constantly working towards enhanced rates of returns.
