When high principles run headlong into hard reality
Article Abstract:
The UK government's ethical foreign policy has seen both successes and failures. The government has played a significant role in developing plans for an international criminal court, and also handled the conflict in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, very positively. However, it attracted controversy over the supply of weapons to Sierra Leone, and has also been criticized for delaying the suspension of delivery of Hawk jets to Indonesia following the outbreak of fighting in East Timor. It is clear that there are significant risks associated with an ethical foreign policy.
