Where Post-Modernist design meets Mickey Mouse
Article Abstract:
Famous Post-Modernist American architects, Michael Graves, Robert Stern and Frank Gehry designed the hotels adjacent to Euro Disney because Disney wanted buildings with 'cultural significance'. Graves' Hotel New York is nostalgic and his Newport Bay Club recalls East Coast American hotels of 1900 with theme restaurants. Stern's Hotel Cheyenne recreates an Ol' Western town. Gehry designed the Festival Disney complex of bars, restaurants and shops. Disneyland Hotel is part of the theme park, designed by the 'imagineers' with the American firm Wimberley, Allison, Tong and Goo and mixes Old Europe and Wizard of Oz styles into a Never-Never Land.

Why Mickey Mouse never wears Nikes
Article Abstract:
Brand management has become extremely important for leading companies. The strongest brands communicate a very clear message and give a statement about consumers and what their values are. The emotional impact of a brand can differentiate a product and make the difference between success and failure. Strategies for creating powerful brands depend on third party distributors, the organization, competition, the customer and the environment, according to Leslie de Chernatony, Beneficial Bank Professor of Brand Marketing at the Open University Business School.

Still doyen of all it surveys
Article Abstract:
'Architects' Journal' has handled a number of topics of central importance to the profession many times during its 100 year history. Even as long ago as 1895, there was considerable debate about the role of the professions, and people were criticising modern architecture in the same way that they still do today. The magazine has generally had a progressive approach to design, but has still recognised the important role played by influences from the past.
