Where researchers embrace their subjects with poetry and emotion
Article Abstract:
Research students working within the University of Warwick's Department of Continuing Education are encouraged to include a personal element in their research. This contrasts strongly with the conventional approach to academic research, which dictates complete personal detachment. The department encourages research students to look carefully at their personal life and the impact it has on their research, and places as much emphasis on life experiences as on academic qualifications.

Diversify to survive down on the farm
Article Abstract:
United Kingdom farmers are diversifying into non-agricultural activities as farm incomes have fallen over the last ten years. The government provides subsidies for this under the Farm Diversification Grant Scheme. Exeter University's Agricultural Economics Unit has undertaken research into the effects of diversification by farmers and found great differences in income generated because of the unsuitability of the chosen scheme or location.
