The truth was 'out.' And so were the knives
Article Abstract:
Former UK Cabinet minister Peter Mandelson did not attempt to conceal his homosexuality from those who were close to him, but the revelation on national television by former MP Matthew Parris that Mandelson was gay proved difficult for him to handle. Mandelson protested strongly to the BBC about the way he had been treated on the television programme 'Newsnight.' Local people in his Hartlepool, England, constituency were not really concerned about his homosexuality, but the national newspapers seized on the issue, and Mandelson objected vehemently to his private life becoming public property.

The trade unions are doing all Mr Blair's dirty work
Article Abstract:
The vote in favour of UK entry into the European single currency at the Trades Union Congress (TUC) 1999 annual conference highlights a number of interesting political developments. John Monks, who spoke in favour of European single currency membership, has now become a participant in the government's uncertain progress towards the single currency. It appears that the TUC is seeking to persuade government ministers that it is now time to begin trying to persuade voters of the merits of single currency membership.
