Why Blair must apply brakes to the speeding New Labour cliques
Article Abstract:
The UK Labour party has established a frenetic pace of activity in its first year in office. This can sometimes bring benefits, but the party is now unable to settle down to a less frenetic pace. A great deal of needless activity is taking place, much of which actually creates problems, rather than resolving them. The government has gained a strong reputation for controlling its image, but has shown signs of panicking following controversy about links with political lobbyists. It is now time for Prime Minister Tony Blair to try to slow down the pace of activity.

Why is the Reverend Blair so afraid of unrest in the pews?
Article Abstract:
The UK's Labour government seems to enjoy the support of a large proportion of the population. However, Prime Minister Tony Blair appears nervous. His policies must bring together Old and New Labour, and this will inevitably provoke clashes sometimes. Performing badly in the European elections gave New Labour a shock, and it is now concerned about a decline in party membership and the prospect of traditional Labour supporters failing to vote. Blair is under strong pressure to improve the quality of life in the UK. If he does not succeed, then he faces electoral vulnerability.
