Yes, he remembers the Best of times
Article Abstract:
George Best, the ex-Manchester United and Northern Ireland soccer star of the 60's did not fulfill his potential on the football field due mainly to drink problems. He now makes a living touring theatres where he pulls in good audiences for his chat shows. He also draws big crowds when he signs books or makes personal appearances. His present career is based on memories of his first career. He was paid 800 pounds sterling a week when the average wage was just 20 pounds sterling but all his money is gone. He admits that efforts to get him away from drink were useless because he loved getting drunk.

Gazza's friends: the new yobbocracy
Article Abstract:
Footballer Paul Gascoigne is the symbol of a new social group in the UK. The members of this group are young, wealthy and are very keen to enjoy themselves. They do not hesitate to shock, and often drink and smoke heavily. They like to be seen in the most fashionable place in London, England, and attend many launches and award ceremonies. Gascoigne does not believe that his lifestyle will affect his fitness for the 1998 World Cup. However, there are indications that this group's way of life is now beginning to fall from favour.

Are Gazza's in-flight antics his last hurrah?
Article Abstract:
Footballer Paul Gascoigne has frequently attracted negative media coverage as a result of his sometimes outrageous behaviour. This now means that all his activities are subject to close scrutiny by the media. Most recently, it was reported that he drank excessively on a flight from the Far East. He has now reached the age of 29, and it could be that he will soon fade as a football star. Media commentators are now considering if there is a similar personality to take his place.
