A gatehouse for Johnson
Article Abstract:
Philip Johnson's one-bedroom concrete 'Gatehouse' in New Canaan, CT, consists of complex structural members. Numerous construction methods were considered but the shotcrete/manufactured panel technique was selected for its ability to overcome the difficulty of following the structure's radical design. The shapes were fabricated by spraying concrete onto wire mesh cages made up of two sheets of welded wire mesh joined by diagonal wires. Shotcrete was applied over the erected panels to come up with a continuously reinforced structure.

Peaches and concrete
Article Abstract:
One Peachtree Center in Atlanta, GA, highlights the efficient application of value engineering. Project engineers made a thorough analysis of the potential problems that the building design may pose during construction and made the necessary structural design adjustments that would ensure stability, facilitate construction and enhance the aesthetic qualities of the tower. The innovative design of the concrete framing system also proved to be economical and resulted in a building that combines both standard and modern technology.
