Acid-base and charge characteristics of MnO2, TiO2, Fe3O4, and Al2O3 surfaces and adsorption affinity of alkali metal ions
Article Abstract:
A model where the suppression of ion exchange due to lateral interactions between the interphase species is assumed by the Frumkin isotherm is applied to the ion-exchange reactions on metal oxides with simple monovalent ions. Here, the action of ions is weak and the essential properties of oxide surfaces are well defined. The intensity of cation exchange increases in the order of Al2O3 less than Fe3O4 less than TiO2 less than MnO2, while the intensity of anion exchange decreases in the same order. The electronegativity of the lattice metal ions of these oxides was also found to increase in the same order.

Approximate semianalytical solution for nonlinear surface diffusion in a batch reactor
Article Abstract:
A semianalytical solution for a carbon adsorption process with a nonlinear boundary condition was presented. The solution utilizes a unit-step function to represent adsorbed-phase adsorbate concentration at the solid-liquid interface. Three nonlinear simultaneous algebraic expressions were used to calculate the bulk liquid concentration. Results from the solution were in good agreement with exprimental data.
