Alternatives to 35-S as a label forthe differential display of eukaryotic messenger RNA
Article Abstract:
The differential display of mRNA is valuable for identifying altered gene expression in eukaryotic cells, but a potential health hazard was found. Alpha-[35S]dATP used as a label releases toxic levels of decomposition products during PCR. Alternatives are suggested and a reply is included.

RNA editing hints of a remarkable diversity in gene expression pathways
Article Abstract:
Research on the expression of mitochondrial genes in trypanosomatid protozoa has uncovered a reaction called RNA editing, an RNA processing reaction that transfers genetic information between RNAs. A model for RNA editing is presented.

Methylation and imprinting: from host defense to gene regulation?
Article Abstract:
Maternal and paternal gene expression may vary in the offspring. This is called gene imprinting. DNA methylation and the imprinting of genes may be connected perhaps in a causal relationship.
