America's first eyes in space
Article Abstract:
The US government declassified the records of the spy satellite Discoverer XIII and the 800,000 photographs and 2.1 million feet of film it took since 1960. The photographs will be useful for studies of urbanization, desertification and other changes in the environment since 1960.

A new view of America
Article Abstract:
The US Geological Survey has used digital image-generation technology to produce the most accurate topographic map in existence. The map was based on 12 million data points representing elevation measurements. Formulation of the map is discussed.
