Chemistry of Superoxide Radical in Seawater: Reactions with Organic Cu Complexes
Article Abstract:
Superoxide radicals in seawater may be an important partner in Cu redox. This study finds that steady state concentration of O2 negative are one tenth prior estimates.

Chemistry of Superoxide Radical in Seawater: CDOM Associated Sink of Superoxide in Coastal Waters
Article Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to discover the rates of non-metal-catalyzed decay of superoxide radicals. A non-metallic component of the dissolved organic matter was found to be a strong sink, but it was not identified, however it was determined not to be a biological product of marine organisms. Various terrestial quinones were investigated but there were not any quantified relations between quinone concentration and O2 negative dismutation rates that could be determined.

An Integrated Method Incorporating Sulfur-Oxidizing Bacteria and Electrokinetics to Enhance Removal of Copper from Contaminated Soil
Article Abstract:
A combination of two methods are studied to remove copper from contaminated soil. Bioleaching transforms metal sulfides to sulfates, converting them to soluble salts for recovery. Electrokinetics applies direct current to soil which leads to the migration of metals through pore fluid to the cathode. In this UK study soil was amended with sulfur and incubated in moisture at a steady temperature. Indigenous sulfur-oxidizing bacteria partly acidified the soil, preparing the soil for the electrokinteic method, This method resulted in a 5.1 fold increase in soil sulfate concentration and used 66% less electric power.
