Assessing the risk posed by pesticides
Article Abstract:
Dole/Johnston legislation on the assessment of risk to human health and environment by pesticide use will help in restoring the lost faith in the government's environmental policy decisions. The legislation, an amendment of earlier Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) regulations, will benefit and strengthen the scientific professionalism within EPA. The amendment is strongly backed by the agricultural interests and focuses on the assessment of risk posed by the product to the society, risk comparison and its cost benefits.

EPA's policy on pesticides gets tougher
Article Abstract:
The Environmental Protection Agency is resorting to the application of pest management in the light of environmental hazards posed by the use of pesticides in raw as well as processed food. Legislative reforms seek to reduce the overall pesticide use, and minimize the unacceptable risks posed by the pesticides to public health and environment. However, only the judicious combination of personal responsibility and governmental initiatives will resolve the pesticide problems without curtailing the agricultural production rate.

Pesticides yield a toxic harvest
Article Abstract:
The US should change its traditional pesticide management that depends on toxic chemical pesticides. These chemicals cause adverse health effects and pose a grave threat to human safety and environment. Annually, 100 million pounds of neurotoxins and 460 million pounds of irritants used in farms cause 300,000 cases of injuries according to Environmental Protection Agency surveys. Integrated pest-management that is economical and uses less number of toxins, if adopted, will yield benefits.
