Atom laser shows that it is worthy of the name
Article Abstract:
The lack of amplification in the waves of an atom laser has led critics to charge that the instrument is not a true laser. A new study has shown that the rate at which a Bose-Einstein condensate forms is suggestive of a stimulated scattering process similar to amplification in conventional lasers.

Optical scientists are rapidly approaching the point in x-ray laser research to where practical lab usage, such as in interferometry, is at hand. Some of the advancements in x-ray laser production include substituting a powerful electric charge in plasma, for the pumping laser.
