Bright lights, big mystery: the brightest flash ever seen has revealed exotic celestial objects

Gamma ray flashes between December 1997 and April 1998 provided some light on long thought of mysteries on gamma rays. Scientists learned with the burst that such phenomena do not only come from our galaxy and that current models on such bursts may not adequately explain their nature.
