Bus drivers
Article Abstract:
Efforts at better enhancing automation in manufacturing have promoted interest in the fieldbus technology and its associated products. Through the fieldbus, an open system has been developed that allows for total 'inoperability,' whereby firms can bring any of their products from the vendor to a new or existing plant at any time and with full communication with the said product. Through a network of cables, automation devices can communicate among themselves and with a central controller. Some of the existing types of fieldbus network include Profibus and Interbus S.

Rolling prospects
Article Abstract:
Roller bearing performance is being upgraded with the use of higher specification steel, engineering copolymers, ceramics and advanced greases as materials. Bearing performance has also been improved with the application of better sealing methods and cage and shield tribological properties. These improvements are reflected in higher revolution number, from 5-15 million in earlier counterparts to 30-50 million in newer products.

Fit for use
Article Abstract:
Fastening systems have evolved into high-tech products suited for a wide range of applications. The Spiralock thread locking system, for instance, features an asymmetric threadform with a 30 degree ramp to improve the strength of threads and create a vibration-resistant joint while the Torx Plus drive system features an elliptical geometry for increased torque transfer and minimized possibility of camout.
