Linking Habitat Use of Hudson River Striped Bass to Accumulation of Polychlorinated Biphenyl Congeners
Article Abstract:
Polychlorinated biphenyls[t-PCB] , a hydrophobic organic contaminant, in estuaries and coastal zones appear in fish in direct relation to concentrations in habitat. In the case of striped bass, a migratory species, t-PCB is present in smaller quantities in saline going bass. The method used includes otolithic chemistry to assess migration behavior. A second goal of the study was to determine if other sources of PCB exposure existed by examining higher and lower chlorination patterns. The study took place in the Hudson River.

Polychlorinated biphenyl reductive dechlorination by vitamin B12s: thermodynamics and regiospecificity
Article Abstract:
Researchers found that vitamin B12s can be an effective catalyst for the study of reductive dechlorination reactions. Experiments were conducted to determine the pathway for vitamine B12s catalyzed reductive dechlorination of aqueous 2,3,4,5,6-PeCB, and its dechlorinated products. Titanium citrate-reduced vitamine B12s was sealed into ampules with PCBs for at least 160 days. Reactions could be identified by color changes from red to amber to blue. After 160 days, most PCBs had been dechlorinated from the test samples. DCBs were found at varying levels in these ampules.
