Consulting the experts
Article Abstract:
The UK Design Selection Service has revised its operations and changed its name to the Design Council Consultancy Register (DCCR). It seeks to help manufacturing managers find the right outside design consultancy for a given project. The more than 800 consultancies listed by DCCR pay a 300-pound sterling annual fee to be listed, and companies using the register pay 200 pound sterling for help in developing a design brief and information on three possible firms.

A long crawl to market
Article Abstract:
A survey conducted by 'Engineering' reveals disturbing trends in the UK manufacturing sector. The 700 responses indicate that only 1/6 of UK manufacturers use concurrent engineering (CE) all the time, that 50% of all products are late to market, and that UK companies overrun their product design budgets by 19% on average. Larger companies are likelier to practice CE, while 60% of all new CE users are mid-sized companies. .
