Corps develops electric fish barrier for Chicago canal
Article Abstract:
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have devised a way of maintaining canal traffic while preventing the aggressive carp species from Asia that are migrating toward the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. A company that specializes in fish guidance systems, Corps and Smith-Root, Inc., of Vancouver designed a first-of-its-kind electrical barrier that would repel fish while enabling barges and other traffic to freely ply the waters.
