DOE labs: is evolution enough?
Article Abstract:
The DOE is reevaluating the mission of its 26 laboratories. Cost-cutting and streamlining projects may not be enough to save some labs. In a role-playing simulation, a DOE panel decided to close some major labs, but was overruled by Congress, who delegated the decision to an independent commission.

Privatized cancer journal triggers Senate reaction
Article Abstract:
A publishing deal between the National Cancer Institute and Oxford University has triggered a Senate attempt to pass the Government Printing Act of 1997 to improve access to government information and prevent deals that allow profit from this information. Some scientists oppose the law.
