Desert island: How climate can promote speciation
Article Abstract:
Paleontologists have excavated fossils of giant amphibians Nigerpeton ricqlesi and Saharastega moradiensis in the Saharan sands that indicate that climate can effectively isolate organisms and thereby foster endemism. These creatures inhabited oases dotting a similar desert landscape 250 million years ago, feeding on fish as well as other aquatic tetrapods.

Becoming behemoth: how to put the rex into tyrannosaurus
Article Abstract:
The tyrannosaurus rex is a matter of concern for evolutionary biologists who attribute its gigantism to increased levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The other factors are that the cold-blooded animals and the meat eating species require more extensive geographic ranges and lower population densities.
